Batteries and charging

Batteries and charging

Each collar contains a removable battery that charges during use via an integrated solar panel. Batteries can also be charged using an external charger for faster charging. Below you will find information about maintaining, charging, and setting up your batteries.

Preparing a new battery

When you receive a new battery, it will be protected by tape. Remove the tape before inserting the battery into the collar or charger.

New batteries arrive at less than 30% charge. We recommend fully charging your battery before starting to use the collar.

Charging and battery life

To ensure a long battery life, avoid letting the battery run empty. When the app shows "Low battery", the battery is below 5% and it is time to charge. The "Empty battery" warning means the collar is completely out of power and will be offline until charged.

When charging via the solar panel, make sure the collar temperature does not exceed 60°C. Charging while the collar is on the animal may take longer, as the collar uses energy while tracking.

Charging times

  • Cattle collar: approximately 11–14 hours from empty

  • Sheep and goat collar: approximately 8–10 hours from empty

When fully charged, the indicator light shows a constant green. To switch the collar on, click the battery into the battery slot. You should hear a click when it is properly inserted. The collar plays a startup sound when a charged battery is inserted. To switch the collar off, remove the battery from the slot.

You can change the battery without removing the collar from the animal. Note that the collar will not work while the battery is out.

Battery cleaning and maintenance

To remove the battery for charging, cleaning, or maintenance, press the buttons on both sides of the collar at the same time. You may need to apply firm pressure. If needed, pump pliers can be used to remove a cattle collar battery.

If dust or debris collects around the button, press the button out, dismantle it, and wash it for easier use.

We recommend cleaning the collar and battery whenever you change the battery. For detailed instructions, see our Collar Cleaning and Maintenance guides.
